How should I pack fragile items?
When packing fragile items, follow these steps to ensure their safety: 1) Choose the Right Box: Start with a sturdy, undamaged box. Double-walled boxes offer extra protection for especially delicate items. 2) Provide Ample Cushioning: Use bubble wrap, foam peanuts, or crumpled newspaper to line the bottom of the box. This cushioning layer should be several inches thick. 3) Wrap Each Item Individually: Wrap each fragile item separately with bubble wrap or packing paper. Secure the wrap with packing tape. For items like glassware or dishes, fill any hollow spaces (like the inside of a cup) with crumpled paper. 4) Avoid Overpacking: Don’t overload the box. Heavy boxes are more likely to be dropped or mishandled. 5) Layer Appropriately: Place heavier items at the bottom and lighter, more delicate items on top. Separate layers with cardboard dividers or cushioning material. 6) Fill Empty Spaces: Use foam peanuts, crumpled paper, or other packing materials to fill in any gaps, ensuring items can’t shift around during the move. 7) Seal and Label: Close the box and seal all edges with packing tape. Clearly label the box as “FRAGILE” on multiple sides and indicate which side is up. 8) Store Safely: When loading the moving truck or storage area, ensure that fragile boxes aren’t placed under heavy items and are kept away from potential hazards.
